Most German courses teach a generic learner who does not exist. Auf Deutsch starts from your actual week: the job you do, the people you talk to, the errands you run, and the country you are moving toward.

Two synchronized tracks
Every learner runs two tracks at once. The Core German Track is CEFR-aligned grammar and everyday communication — introductions, food, appointments, directions, housing, opinions. The Personal Pathway adds your profession, interests, relocation plans and personal vocabulary.
The default mix is 60% core German, 25% professional German and 15% interests. Core German never drops below 40%: professional content supplements a complete everyday foundation, it never replaces it.
CEFR progression, honestly labelled
A1 is the active curriculum today. A2 through C1 are mapped in detail on the progress page so you can see where the path goes — and are clearly marked as planned rather than pretending the content already exists.
Correction that teaches
Being marked wrong teaches nothing. Every correction follows the same five steps:
- 1.Recognise what you already understood
- 2.Show the corrected sentence
- 3.Explain the rule in plain English
- 4.Give one reusable pattern
- 5.Ask one small follow-up question
Example
Learner: Es kommt darauf an der Preis.
Very close!
Es kommt auf den Preis an.
When you name the specific thing, use auf + accusative noun.
Pattern: Es kommt auf + den/die/das + noun + an.
Now try: “It depends on the weather.”
What we reward
- Consistency over cramming
- Mastery you still have two weeks later
- Reviewing mistakes instead of skipping them
- Finishing whole conversations
- Speaking aloud, even badly
A streak is a habit signal, not a fluency claim, and we present it that way.
AI, kept on a short leash
AI will personalize examples, evaluate open answers, generate controlled dialogue variations and choose review material — always inside verified CEFR grammar targets, vocabulary banks, professional terminology and lesson templates.
It will never be allowed to produce authoritative medical, electrical, cybersecurity, immigration, legal or workplace-safety instructions. In this release, feedback comes from deterministic checks, and any future AI evaluation runs server-side so no keys are ever exposed in your browser.
Original work
The visual direction is inspired by the warmth of mid-century European educational printing, but every illustration, character, dialogue line, exercise, icon and logo in Auf Deutsch is original work created for this product. Nothing is copied from, or made to closely imitate, any existing book.
